2 Year Olds
2 Year Olds
- 24 to 35 Months Old
Having a two year old is a bit like having a blender without the lid on! As a parent, the second year is probably one of the most challenging times.
Constantly on the go, interested in everything, and a very distinct group unlike any other age.
Learning Through Play
At Manor House Nursery our two-year-old room is a large open space with cosy areas and specifically designed spaces to encourage small groups of children to engage in both adult led and child initiated play.
The ‘Areas of Learning’ are promoted with a strong focus on children’s personal, social and emotional development, communication and language development and their physical development. The environment, both indoors and outdoors is carefully planned to meet children’s interests, their age and development stage. We are a free flow setting allowing children to be independent in accessing their own outdoor play area throughout the day.
Our 2 year olds regularly explore beyond the nursery grounds, including the local parkland, beaches, local shops and more. These trips provide our children with real experiences of the world around them, giving them a sense of belonging. Being outdoors provides children with first hand learning opportunities that cannot be replicated elsewhere. The changeable attributes of the seasons, weather and nature create spontaneous teachable moments for all children.
Our two-year-olds also have their very own sensory room. This space provides an area that is dedicated to enhancing children’s senses. It includes a variety of lighting, colours, sounds, aromas, and sensory soft play resources.
A toddler’s world grows through their explorations and experiences.
Children’s play is accessible, appropriate, interesting and stimulating for all children to provide as many opportunities to learn through play as it is essential for child development.
We provide hands on experiences where children use all their senses, providing natural, real, open-ended resources promoting a natural curiosity, investigation, learning, and problem solving.
Our staff listen and respond to the children sensitively, and work closely with you and your child demonstrating ‘professional love’ to develop vital bonds.

All About Sleep
Good, quality sleep supports children’s health, development and improves children’s well-being.
When children are sleeping their little brains are rearranging and sorting all the language and learning that has taken place that day.
At Manor House Nursery our 2-year-olds have their own separate sleep area. This calming, quiet space adjoined to the children’s playroom provides the perfect environment for rest.
We aim to recreate a child’s home from home routine offering a familiar toy or blanket to cuddle.
Children’s naps are recorded on the Famly App and shared with parents to ensure you are informed of your child’s daily routine while they are in our care.
We follow the Lullaby Trust Safer Sleep practices. For advice on supporting your child’s s sleep at home please speak to your child’s key person.
